Two consecutive experiments were conducted during 1980/81 and 1981/82, to determine the relation between waterand yield of Sweet Pepper (Capsicum annum) at La Platina Exp. Sta. (INIA), Santiago, Chile. ln a randomized block design, 4 treatments of water application, according to a Class A pan evaporation (Eb), were used: 1.3 Eb, 1.0 Eb, 0.7 Eb and 0.3 Eb; with four replicates. Water was applied every 7 days. A linear relation between yield and eVapotranspiration was obtained, valid between 15 and 35 cm of Eb. Larger values for Eb did not increase yields, aboye 30 Ton/ha. The relation between relative yield loss and relative reduction in evapotranspiration (ET) was:
(1 - Ya/Ym) = Ky (1 - ETa/ETm)
where: Ya = actual yield; Ym = maximum yield; ETa = actual ET and ETm = maximum ET. Ky values were similar for both years (0.95 and 1 .08) and for the combined data (Ky = 0.98; r2 = 0.83). |
