During the seasons 1962, 196,3 and 1964 three experiments were conducted at the Experiment Station La Platina to determine the effect of the attack of leaf rust (Puccinia recondita Rob. ex Desm.) , on the yield of susceptible wheat varieties. Orofén antI Orofén 60 were the susceptible varieties selected for this study. The rust control, whose attack was heavy in alI three seasons on check varieties, was made through many applications of manganese etileno bisclitiocarbamate. In 1962 it was found that Orofén ancI Orofén 60, free of rust attack, improved their yield in 28,48% and 34,67% respectively. In 1963 these percentages were 33,63% and 45,39%. The experiment was not significant in 1964, nevertheless it showed a positive tendency with regard to the varieties protected by the fungicide. These results suggest that Orofén and Orofén 60 must be soon replaced by other leaf rust resistant varieties. |
