The present investigation was conducted in the chilean variety Corahila which has excellent cooking quality and is well acceped by the consummers. This variety is highly infected with almost every virus of economic importance and no virus-free plant has been found yet. A total of 978 meristems were cultivated in New Morel nutrient medium. Of these, 430 meristems developed normally and 48 of them passed into seedling stage. Naphthalene acetic acid growth acelerator was added to the medium. Finally 18 seedling became mature plants, and were transplanted to pots with sterile soil plus nutrients. After serological test, Igel Lange method and inoculation on test plants were performed, 3 plants totally free from virus X, Y, S, M, and "leaf roll" virus were obtained. The tubers of these plants will be used as basic stock for patato seed production.
