Foliage sprays of 1.200, 1.800 and 2.100 ppm aqueous maleic hydrazide, applieel 15 and 7 days before harvest were effective in sprout inhibition of Valencia onions in storage. After 313 elays of storage all treated onions, regardless of concentratÃon al' time al application, sprouted less than the con trols. Increasing concentrations of M. H. had no effect on sprout inhibitÃon when solutions were applied 7 days before harvest, but sprouting decreased linearly with concentration with applicationsl5 days befare harvest. Apparently onions must be activily translocating from stalk to bulb for maleic hydrazide treatment to be effective. |
