This experimental work was conducted at Los Andes Experiment Station during the season 1957-1958. It has been carried out onions. Chemical weed control and hand weeding were compared with an unweeded check in order to determine the effect of the weeds upon the yield. Comparisons of different herbicides in one dosage, aplied once, twice and three times during the season were studied; some of the treatments were combined with hand weeding. Potassium cynate, Chloro IPC and CMU were tested. First and second products gave good results when they were sprayed twice during the season when combined with handweeding. Potassium cyanate was used at the rate of 2%; Chloro IPC, 4.000 grs. active ingredient and CMU 1.000 grs. active ingredient per Há. It is necessary to repeat these experiments in different soils and under different weather conditions, since moisture and soil texture have influence upon the herbicides and its effects. |
