An evaluation of the effect of 16 factors on the field productivity of onion was conducted in 34 sites of the Aconcagua Valley. Soils and management factors were measu red. Among the factors analysed, those which showed the greatest importance were: final plant population > initial available soil potassium > crop rotation. The best yields (60,000 kg/ha) were measured with populations of 220,000 plants/ha or higher, initial K exchangeable levels in the soil aboye 100 ppm, and in sites where a egume was included in the crop rotation. |
