Wheat and barley yellow rusts epiphytics observed in Chile, during the season 1981/1982

Severe epiphytics of these rusts, occurring in two well defined geographic areas during the season 1981-1982, are reported. New physiological races were identified through the cooperative action of the INIA Cereal Program (Chile) with the Plant Research Institute (IPO), Wageningen (Holand). Identifications were made by R.W. Stubbs. These new races could be the cause for the changes in virulence observed lately in the rust populations.
