ABSTRACT
EFFECT OF SEEDING DATE AND NITROGEN RATE ON A SPRING WHEAT CULTIVAR. III. QUALITY, KERNEL SIZE, AND HECTOLITER WEIGHT VARIATIONS

Mario Mellado Z.1 y Luis Barrales V. 2

During 1974 and 1975 the effects of five seeding dates (august 1 to october 1) and seven nitrogen rates (0 to 300 Kg. N/ha) on nutritive quality and commercial grain quality of the Antufen spring wheat cultivar were studied. The research was carried out at the Estación Experi mental Quilamapu (Chillán, Chile), Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias. The parameters evaluated were: grain protein percentage, microsedimentation value, hectoliter weight and kernel size.
Analysis of the data leads to the following conclu sions:
- The delay in the seeding date and the increase in nitrogen rate, increased significantly the grairi pro tein percentage and the grain sedimentation value.
- The percentage of kernels equal or smaller than 2.65 mm increased in late seeding dates.
- The hectoliter weight significantly decreased in late seeding dates, and also with the lowest and higher nitrogen treatments (0 and 250, and 300 Kg. N/ha.)
