During 1968 an experiment was carried out study different combinations of dried beet pulp and rapeseed meal for winter fattening of steers.
Twenty eight European-Holstein steers were alloted in the following winter feeding:
A. Dried beet pulp (control).
B. 10 per cent rapeseed meal and 90 per cent dried beet pulp mixture.
C. 15 per cent rapeseed meal and 85 per cent dried beet pulp mixture.
D. 20 per cent rapeseed meal and 80 per cent dried beet pulp mixture.
Even though statistical analyses did not show significance (P>0.05), a consistent difference was found among live weight gain of the treatments. Steers with 10 and 15 per cent rapeseed meal had a daily gain of 0.11 kg (11 per cent) and 0.21 kg (22 per cent) higher than the control treatment, respectively. The ration with 20 per cent rapeseed meal did not improve the daily gain as compared with the 15 per cent rapeseed meal treatment.
